2018 Mercedes Benz X-Class BakkieMercedes Benz dentified South Africa as one of the main markets for the 2018 Mercedes Benz X-Class Bakkie. Pick Up’s are known in South Africa as “Bakkies” and while the 2018 Mercedes X-Class is essentially a bakkie it is doubtful this vehicle will be loaded with sand and stone or used as a workhorse. Set to be launched in May 2018, Dieter Zetscke, head of Mercedes-Benz cars said: “South Africa will be one of the first markets to receive the new model.”

The 2018 Mercedes Benz X-Class Bakkie is here!

OMercedes Benz Best or Nothingne would imagine the Mercedes bakkie being bought, first and foremost, as a status symbol or showpiece for well-off individuals and companies. The price of the Mercedes Benz X-Class is expected to surpass even the most expensive bakkie available on the South African auto market.

Pricing, Financing and Monthly Installments

UPDATED JUNE 2018. Mercedes Benz has suggested that the price set for South African markets will be set at “an attractive” price. While ‘attractive’ sounds good, it does not mean it will be affordable or even reasonable for anyone in the lower to middle income earning bracket. Engines & Drivetrains

There are FOUR versions of the Mercedes Benz X-Class engines; a 3.0-litre V6, a smaller 2.3-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel and a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol will also be offered. Power specs have yet to be revealed.

Two drivetrains will be available: manual and a 7G-Tronic automatic. South African markets can expect 4×2 and 4×4 versions with low-range and centre and rear-diff lock.

Mercedes X-Class

“According to Mercedes-Benz, the X-Class is the world’s “first premium bakkie” and will combine the best of two worlds, as demonstrated by two design variants of the concept model; The Stylish Explorer and Powerful Adventurer.

The concept X-Class “powerful adventurer” illustrates that the future X-Class will possess all the strengths of a traditional bakkie – “tough, functional, strong, and with off-road capability”.

The top-of-the-range 2018 Mercedes benz X-Class bakkie model will be powered by a V6 diesel in combination with 4Matic permanent all-wheel drive. The all-wheel-drive system will combine an electronic traction system, a transfer case with reduction gear, and two differential-locks. The traction system and the electrically operated differential- locks channel the power to where traction is best.” – wheels24.co.za
